Sent to Health Experts September 09 02:27 PM

my daughter has been taking amoxicillin for strep throat and yesterday came home with a rash on her back and arms. today the rash seems to be worse and itches. I have given her benadryl to help with the itching, 4 doses since last night. this morning the rash was on her face and there seem to be more welt like bumps on her legs and back, do I need to take her in ? there is no shortness of breath or nausea, just the itching and looks really ugly.

Yes, you need to at least give the doctor a call so she can get a different antibiotic. If you cannot reach the doctor, take her in to be examined.

Reply to Kerry's Post: she has been taking the amoxicillin since last friday, the rash showed up 5 days after her first dose, is this normal? What more can they do for her that I am not already doing?

an allergic reaction can happen at any time while taking antibiotics. What you need to do next is call her doctor or take her in.
