Hi, I have had a problem with my nasal passage for a couple of years and have been to see ENT and have had a camera up both passage's of my nose to rhe back of the throat and they cant find any problem's but the symtoms are always pressent, I am suffering more and more with sore throats and when I go to bed which ever side I lie that side of my nostral will block and when I turn onto the other side after a while the blockage will shift to that side, also I am getting a build up of guitar that seem's to hang at the back of my throat and no ammount of sniffing and swalowing will shift it, I sometime think it feels like I want to put a chimminy type brush up my nose to the back of my throat to give it a good clean to try and move this sensation, I have been back to my doctors recently to tell him the symtems are still there and all he say's is the ENT department have found nothing and persist's on giving me nasal spray's, It's realy getting me down can you help with any advise. regards

The alternate blockage of the nose that you describe is very normal, it happens with all of us. This is called the Circadian rhythm of breathing of the nose, our noses autamitically get impeded on one side and open on the other alternately. This is what you are experiencing, you shold not stress yourself over this.

If the ENT has cleared you, it means that you do not have major illnesses like DNS or sinusisitis. You may be having some slight congestion, in addition to the nasal sprays you can try the following:

Decongestants - Sudafed 120 mg once daily(OTC) for 10 days.

Another important home treatment is Menthol steam inhalation - add Menthol salts (available OTC) to a bowl of steaming water and inhale the steam two - three times daily - this will relieve the congestion.

This should be sufficient to keep your nose clear.
