I took 45MG of Armour Tyroid for years, due to financial situations, I stopped taking it 4 years ago. I recently went and had a thyroid screen done and it resulted in my TSH being 1.24. It also stated that the reference range is 0.40 - 5.5, so does this mean that my thyroid is normal? I really need to understand before I go to the expense of going to a doctor. If it is normal, why did I take the 45MG all those years? or can your thyroid get better? Please help! Thank you!

REPLIED Check Mark

There is an entity called transient (temprorary) hypothyroidism that may resolve spontatneously. Sometimes thryoid treatment may have been begun inappropriately too!
I would advise that you get a TSH repeated just to be sure, and if every thing is normal, then you do not need any futehr treatment.
Accoding to one study, almost half the elderly patients in nurisng home were stopped thyroid treatment without any ill effects !
