I am a 41 year old female. I just started about 4 weels ago having bowel problems. I do take the medication Synthroid. So I am not sure if this has something to do with it. My stool is light brown in color but very soft now watery. It feels like I always have to go to the bathroom even when I have finished making a stool. Somedays I feel constipated and I am going about 5-7 times a day, but not a lot (sometimes it is very little stool). It feels like I am constipated and it is hard for me to push it our even though it is soft. I just had my thyroid test done since I have been on synthroid and the levels were fine.

REPLIED Check Mark

You may have Irritable bowel syndrome. This needs to be ruled out by your doctor. High fiber diet helps.

Another point is that to keep your thyroid hormone level at low normal level. High normal level may possibly giving you soft or watery stool.

In my question to you, I indicated watery stool, but I meant to say it is soft but not watery. Somedays I go 5-7 times a day and others I feel like I am constipated but not and it feels like it is hanging around in my rearend. It feels like I constantly have to make a stool even when I have to urinate.   It takes a lot of effort to get the stool out I have to strain just about everytime and I have a little low back pain. Does this sound like a serious condition and or possible signs of any form of cancer? I am a little scared. Thanks Connie

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It doesn't look like cancer. It looks like Irritable bowel syndrome but before that diagnosis is made you need to be evaluated by the Gastroenterologist . You may need a colonoscopy to rule out a colon tumor and may be some other test before a diagnosis can be reached.
