My son is approaching 15 years of age. For the past 2

My son is approaching 15 years of age. For the past 2 days, he is experiencing pain around his adam's apple. He said the discomfort isn't in his throat, it's outside, but under the skin. He said it's painful. Could these be "growing pains"?

Hello,

I do not beleive this is the normal discomfort associated with "growing pains"

I would suggest that he be seen by the pediatrician in order for the area to be palpated for thyroid or other nodules as a precaution. These nodules are routinely benign.

I just spoke w/our pediatrician over the phone and she suspects it's the onset of a cold, tonsils pushing against his throat or a strain. Thank you for your prompt reply nontheless.
