whats wrong if my thyroid glands are swollen?

well my thyroid glands are swollen and they really hurt to the touch and to swallow, talk, laugh. does this mean im sick. or what?

Hello,

Are your glands swollen on either side of your neck below your jaw and back toward your ears?

Or are they swollen in the front middle of your neck by your "adam's apple"?
