I do not see his condition as one that can wait. While there are several benign possibilities (allergic reaction to a chemical from work, anxiety attack related to the stress of overtime, a lingering reaction to an attack of low blood sugar...) There are conditions (for ex. disorders of thyroid or kidney disorders, new onset diabetes...)which require immediate intervention. Even if he attempts to wait out the O.T., he may end up losing work if this episode repeats or continues. He could also be in danger if he doesn't identify the source of these symptoms and they progress to dizziness, or even loss of consciousness while he is driving or working. His safest option is to schedule and immediate examination (if he has a good family Doctor) or to be seen in Emergency or at an Urgent Care within the next 24 hours. they can do some preliminary blood work, an EKG, and test his urine for signs of kidney disorder, infection, and signs of diabtes or hypoglycemia.
In the meantime conyinue the hydration and a light snack as tolerated, apply a cool compress to forehead and pulse points, have him control his breathing, taking 12-15 deep breaths per minute, (if this is difficult have him breath into a paper bag for several minutes). Give hime two Ibuprofen and two regular OTC Benadryl. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, andthe Benadryl will address the possibility of an allergic response. The Benadryl will not harm him, even if there is no histamine reaction involved. If the Benadryl provides any relief, and he delays seeking treatment overnight, repeat the Benadryl, Ibuprofen and compresses in four hours.
