I am excessive sweating, have tingling in my torso area, loss a significant amount of weight, and just shaking all the time. Any ideas what this might be? I have had blood work, ct scan of chest and abdomen, bone scan, ent exam, and they can not find anything.

Reply to Pauline's Post: My doctor did all kinds of blood tests, not sure I know CBC was one of them, and all things were perfect. I take atenolol for mitral valve prolapse. I take Yasmin for birth control. I am not sure what kind of hormone tests I have had, if any. I am 36 yrs old. I do not drink coffee or caffiene of any kind. No inhalers. My doctors seem to think this is all related to stress, anxiety and depression. I just feel horrible. I also have a chronic sore throat, which ent said he thinks i have reflux, which I know that I don't. Can nerves cause all of my symptoms?

Nerves can certainly cause you to have the shakes and make you feel like your body is trembling and tingling but would only be linked with weight loss if there was a change to your exercise and appetite levels. By having scans they have rules out cancers of the chest etc as weight loss is always a 'danger symptom' and one that can be associated with cancers and lymphomas. It can also be associated with TB (as can night sweats) however the xray would have picked that up.

I would suggest that you ask for a Complete Pituitary Hormone Test to be done specifically looking at your thyroid and cortisol hormones and I would suggest some blood glucose tests too to see if you are having problems with glucose metabolism. Changes to these would give the picture you describe and are not always easy to pick up on scans although an MRI of the brain can highlight any problems with the pituitary gland itself.

Does this help?

Reply to Pauline's Post: I am just really scared. This really all started out with the sore throat, ear infection, etc. Put on antibodics and the sore throat did not go away. I still have that daily. I went to an ENT he said there were no tumors or anything like that in my throat. My haven't had much of an appepite for several weeks now. Although I am forcing my self to eat, even fattening foods. Don't seem to be able to recover the weight. The night sweats really scare me too, I wake up with sweat under my breast, on my neck and behind my knees. I have a thyroid ultrasound next Monday. Everyone, doctors included keep saying it is depression, well, yes I am depressed cause no one can find out what is wrong with me. I am so glad that I found someone that can answer my questions. Sorry I rambled on......Help?

First of all, think you needtomake timefor yourself and ensure that you are looking after your body and mind. If your food intake is not right then you can suffer hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) and this can cause sweating, especially during the 'fast' overnight.

Get the thyroid tests done, if you have excess thyroid hormones this will contribute to ALL your symptoms and can usually be managed by tablets.

I hope this helps. I will check back in a few hours to see if you need any more help.

Reply to Pauline's Post: Do you think this could be something really serious? It is all that I can think about. I have been eating and eating and just can't gain any of my weight back. My throid levels were borderline high about a month ago and then it was taken again, and it was within normal range. It is still possible that this could be my problem, and should I still have the ultrasound done?

I would go with the ultrasound, just to eliminate thyroid as that possibility, and ask them to run glucose, corticol, ACTH and growth hormone levels too. This would rule out any relationship with pituitary hormone problems.

In order to put weight on, you will need a calorie intake of about 2500calories per day. Ensure it is a balance of complex carbohydrates and protein. It would also be interesting to see if you have any muscle structure changes, ie muscle weakness or loss of muscle bulk in thighs and upper arms.

I appreciate that this is going on for a while, but the important serious malignancy disorders of the chest have been ruled out which is a good thing.

Regards
