There are many things that can cause a woman to have irregular periods. Stress, infection, illness, thyroid or hormonal imbalance, weight loss or gain. However, since you describe this as happening pretty regularly as every other month, it's a possibility that one of your ovaries is not releasing an egg. The two ovaries normally rotate back and forth on releasing eggs. If one is not releasing, than you might only have a period once every other month. I recommend seeing a new gynecologist for a second opinion, who can do some tests to find out what's going on exactly. They can check your thyroid and hormone levels, which may be responsible for this or find out if one of your ovaries is not releasing an egg. Remember, that if the cause is only irregular periods, you can still get pregnant any time. Please see a new gynecologist who will take time to listen to you and find out what's going on instead of just putting you on birth control. Ask around and from friends if they know of any good GYN's.

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. That's what I'm here for! I'm stil online. Otherwise, please hit the accept button if I have answered you and I have helped you. Thanks, Gloria
