I have recently diagnosed with hypothyroid illness, ...

Sent to Health Experts November 19, 2006 10:21 p.m.

I have recently diagnosed with hypothyroid illness, although many of my symptoms are hyperthyroid in nature. I have been on two separate thyroid medications and am experiencing horrific side effects such as heart palpatations, tight chest, major adrenaline rushes, severe perspiration. This second medication I have been on for approximately six days and each day I feel worse.

My doctor thinks that I am experiencing an anxiety disorder and that I need to see a psychiatrist. These symptoms are real. What should I do? Will these horrific symptoms from the medication lessen with time or should I stop taking it?

Well it does certainly sound like a hypertyroid. Which would be because you are on to high of a dose of medication. If your thyroid level is normal panic attacks would also need to be a consideration. I would think this is the cause and why your doctor thinks this. With a normal level I too would consider a panic attack as the cause.

Have you seen a endocrinologist? If not I would do this. They would be best at treating this.

The symptoms of panic attack are very often the same as a hyperthyroid. This is why when a person has a panic attack they always have the tyroid checked to be sure it is not that.

It may be that you are having panic attacks. I would go to the endocrinologist and then the pyscriatrist. If you are having panic attacjs they can be well controlled with medications.

I hope this helps.Let me know if you have mrore questions.

Dan,

Thanks for your advice. I have one more question. Could my hypothyroid condition turn to hyperthyroid at the lowest possible level of medication? I am at the absolute lowest level of the Armor thyroid medication
