Question

I am constantly hot and sweating. At night I cant

Sent to Health Experts March 20, 2007 4:35 p.m.

I am constantly hot and sweating. At night I cant sleep unless it is 65 degrees or lower and a fan in my face. I just recently had a visit to doctor and had my blood work done. He told me it was normal. Do I need to visit a thyroid doctor to be accurately diagnosed because everything I've read indicates either hyperthyroidism or adrenal disorder? Any thoughts? Thanks for your help

If they have not been monitoring your vitals to see if on a regular basis you may be having a rise at times in your blood pressure this is highly advised as this can be a very common cause of the heat and sweating you are experiencing and it may not be that it is high at all times, ity may fluxuate. I do agree with what you say it does sound like either your thyroid or adrenal disorder. I do think a second opinion is highly needed if this has become constant and chronic. Also I do advise that you monitor your blood pressure if possible three times a day to see if there is any fluxuation that could be causing this to occur. Your bloodwork may be fine but your vitals on a regular basis may not be and it would be best to keep a journal of the readings to see if this could be the cause. But if this is constant and seems to be either worsening or has gone on to become chronic then yes I do agree that you may want to be seen by a specialist to help determine the cause if there are normal regular blood pressure readings. Unlike women men do not go through hot flashes and hormonal changes so this is not something that can be related to that and it is not normal for any changes in your health to have this occur on a regular basis and there has to be an underlying cause. I do agree and would have thought along the lines of your thyroid or adrenal gland had you not meantioned it already and besides abnormal blood pressure these are the most obvious causes and I feel further evaluation is a must.

I was hot and sweating in the physical and he took my BP and pulse and my heart it was normal with a very low pulse. He said my blood work came back normal. Is there anything else he can check for? I am miserable with the heat intolerence and sweating.

Ok thank you for that information and yes if you were like this when they took your reading then that would not be the cause if it was normal. A condition called hyperhidrosis and there is treatments available for this. Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy is a treatment that helps for not only facial blushing but for excessive sweating as well. I am going to include a link below that explains more about this, the effective treatments and causes as well. I feel it is the only other possible cause other then a possible thyroid or adrenal gland problem and should be addressed to see if this is the cause and the best course of treatment to take. Go into all the links about not only the facial blushing but the excessive sweating as well and I hope that this will be of help to you as I do know how miserable something like this can be.

Would that explain the problem of not being able to sleep because of the heat intolerence

Oh yes as when your body temperature is not regulated it most always causes a night of sleeplessness as it does not allow your body to relax to fall asleep. It can be the same if you are too cold as your brain is thinking of ways to get warm or become cooler and this can interrupt the sleep process even though you may not feel that you are thinking about it, your brain is uncontiously.
