Hello, I have been having a strange pattern of illness that my PCP does not seem to have an answer for. For the last 4 years I experience a sore throat with white spots and high fever that lasts about 2-3 weeks. Then for the weeks following (about 5) I have digestive disturbances, dizziness, anxiety symptoms, night sweats, trembling and low grade fever. All in all this lasts a total of 6-8 weeks then I am 100% fine the rest of the year until the sore throat comes back again and it all happens all over. I have also tested positive for mono 3 out of the last 5 times. My new Dr. does not believe in someone having mono more than once. My thyroid, etc. comes back normal.

Since you are online, could you please give some more information:

Have you done a throat culture and sensitivity test?

Have you done the preliminary screeing tests for autoimmune diseases like ANA?

Hello Dr. Evans,

I had a positive strep test done a few years ago. Since then no one has ever done anymore...even though this happens so often. I also have never had any autoimmune tests done. Can a PCP run these tests? I went to him this week and he is doing a chem panel, thyroid (again), and CBC. Thank you so much for your time.

He did order a thyroid antibodies test. I am awaiting the results

Hi,

You should ask for the following tests:

Throat swab culture and sensitivity.

CPK

SGOT, SGPT

CRP

Besides this, the thyroid tests and CBC, along with ESR are of course necessary for yu. AMong all this, I feel the throat swab C&S is necessary to find any pathogenic bacteria in the throat.

These will at least rule out many disease conditions which may be likely for you.
