My thyroid was removed and I am on thyroid med's.

My thyroid was removed and I am on thyroid med's. the doctor says my throid levels from my meds are normal but I continue to gain weight. I have gained 35 Lbs since removal of my thyroid. What could be the cause? Can someone help me?

Thyroid levels often take a couple of months to reflect changes to medication. You need to ensure that your exercise and diet levels are adequate for your age.

If your thyroid was overactive before then you will need to adjust your calorie intake to cope with the reduced metabolism following loss of your thyroid. The levothyroxine will compensate for some of this however it may take some time to settle down.

When did you have your thyroid out? Do you get ankle swelling?

I had my thyroid removed in April of this year. I have pain in my joints, swelling in my feet and I am tired all the time.
