I just had an mri that showed bulging disks between 4/5 and 5/6. My doctor feels my symptoms of lightheadedness/dizzines when turning my head or especially when looking up are not related. She suggested seeing a neurologist. What could be the cause if not the disk problem?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 44

Already Tried:
having the mri and have had an injection of cortisone today for the disk problem

Had a thyroidectomy in 1997 - had thyroid cancer. Have been fine since. Both doctors do not feel this is issue

I'd agree with that and also their conclusion that your MRI result is unrelated.

If you have no vertigo your symptoms would suggest vertibro-basilar ischaemia ( a problem with the circulation to the back of the brain through the vertebral arteries) - quite uncommonon someone your age.

If you have vertigo ( and nausea) that would suggest benign positional vertigo- an ENT surgeon could perform "Epleys Manoeuvre" for that.

Interesting not typical of BPV ( usually last 2 minutes).

The neurological consult seems a reasonable choice.
