It could very well be a wart - a body wart. Warts are caused by Human Papillona Viruses (HPV) and are contagious. Since it can take months or years for a wart to grow large enough to be seen, it is often impossible to know where you were exposed to HPV and grew a wart as a result. Warts are actually very common. Many studies say over half the population will grow a wart some time during their life.
