Hi, my name is Carly and I am 23 years old.
I have a wbc count of 14000 right now.. In the past year it has gone up to 14000 from 10000.
Some Background:
I was on prednisone for 6 months due to an allergic reaction but I have been off of it since Nov. 2005. I was tested for any auto immune disorders and tested negative. My urine was also tested for a high cortisol level. That was negative also.
Over the past month I have developed this "bump" on the back of my neck. My doc. told me it was a cyst and to have it removed. Then the other day I fell down the stairs (My legs are sooo weak after being on the prednisone.) So I went to the hosp. and after they confirmed my legs were ok they took some blood and it came back with a 14000 wbc count. He felt my stomach for swelling.. and checked my blood for anything else abnormal. There was nothing else abnormal. He checked my "Bump" and said he thought it was a lymph node. So I went to another doctor today and he also said it was only a cyst that keeps getting infected.. So I am going to get that removed. But about the wbc.. what are some unusual reasons why someone would have an elevated wbc? My wisdom teeth are coming in.. could that be it? I am also having a root canal next week .. I was on levaquin for the tooth, but now I am not.. could that be why it's elevated? Or could it be because the "cyst" keeps getting infected or inflamed?
Can you please just tell me some "Odd" reasons why wbc counts would be high that no internet search sites have posted? And also, can you please tell me the wbc count range in which it could be considered leukemia? Or when I should start to worry? (I am a complete worry wart and have anxiety issues.. so can you please try to answer these questions as thoroughly as you can, otherwise I will be still worrying and wondering..)
Thank you!
Carly
