Question

A couple of months ago my boyfriend complained about

Sent to Health Experts June 08, 2006 1:46 a.m.

A couple of months ago my boyfriend complained about bumps on and around his penis and showed me what looked like ingrown hair follicles or those little zit/cysts people sometimes get from fluids down there. So much, that we decided not to worry about them. He still has them today, but they only show up and itch a little after he uses a condom. Now we're worried because last week, I started to get the bumps. Again, it looked like how it sometimes does when I shave and irritate a hair follicle, but then I got five under my belly button (that I proceeded to pick at and they scabbed) and now have about 15 around my labia and 5 or 6 on each inner thigh, moving down mid-thigh even. I've been with him 7 months, had 3 exams in the past year, all of which consisted of STD testing (I don't get around, I just take advantage of the comfort of always knowing I'm okay) and have never been positive for anything or shown previous signs of anything. I did have a wart on my finger during wintertime though, and I'm terrified to think that I could have transmitted HPV from my index finger wart to his penis and then to myself again. Actually, we're just confused and terrified in general! I'm going to the doctor asap but I want to hear some feedback now. Help?!?

Hi,

Venereal warts look just like warts, there's no disguising them. They generally isolate to the genital region to include the anus. If the bumps that you are describing don't look like a wart that you would get on your hand or finger then you most likely don't have warts.

You do need to see a doctor though because it sounds as though the problem you are experiencing is contagious.

Scabies are a mite that invade the genital regions because of the warmth and moisture and the armpits also. They create red bumps that are fluid filled and they are highly contagious. They burrow into the skin and make little tuneels as they travel to their next resting spot. The longer they go undiagnosed the more time they have to grow and reproduce. Their little under the skin nests will create what we refer to as "nodules". Nodules are merely another bump that is larger.

Scabies are not an STD. They are contracted easily and in many ways. They can live up to 2 weeks on warm sandy beaches waiting for a human to come along. They can also travel through clothing, seats in a theater, etc.

The sad part is they can't be treated at home. It is very important that you see your doctor ASAP. This will allow a proper diagnosis for your problem and provide a means for the correct treatment to be administered also.

If this information has been helpful, then please do ACCEPT. Positive feedback is also appreciated. Let me know if I can help you further.
